So let's start with how in the beginning it's a nice beautiful Italian day. Luca is wearing armor and you really shouldn't die unless you stand still for 3 minutes. You just mow down the enemy and your brother Mateo is rather safe throughout the beginning. Then you lose your armor and the world is now dark and full of fire.
Italians dying everywhere. Mateo is in danger. So my theory is that the first part is how the young men that joined the military thought it would be, full of heroism and joy of fighting for your country, and thinking they are invincible.
Then the second half shows how the war actually was, full of death, fire, tragedy, and other horrific sights.Thoughts?. Friends in High Places has similar thing going on (while both could be unintentional). The ending is too unbelievable, but the guy was a petty thief and liar. So maybe he told his own version. Although, the unrealistic story didn't bother me so much. CoD is full of similar stuff, I enjoyed SP much more than in BF3 and BF4, because I had a bit more freedom, cutscenes weren't forced and voice acting wasn't cringy.
I only wished it would be longer, not more characters but more missions per character. Like I said in my own comment, the devil is in the details here. He's telling the story to his young adult daughter, judging by the voice acting, and again going off the voice acting and he's older.late 40's to 50's, maybe. So, more likely than not, his daughter was born in the post-war years, making her a member of what is known in the US as 'the greatest generation'.Since he's telling her the story of how his brother died, and suffers from survivor's guilt (that's the entire point of the story), he has no perceptible interest in downplaying how god-awful the war was from his own perspective. Now, if his daughter has friends, a boyfriend, or a husband off fighting WWII or returning from that war. I view the war stories for salt in terms of narration. All the chapters are from the point of view of one of the characters and how its told (IE Lawrence in nothing is written or Clyde in FiHP).
Now at the end of the pilot mission he says 'After all I wouldn't tell a lie. This could be seen in a sense all the 'stories' are exaggerated tales. For example, in Avanti Sovoia its told from Lucas perspective, the setting itself is unrealistic of the idea of a man being basically near invincible to gunfire ect. But lets remember he is telling it to his daughter and prob would like to be seen as a hero and his daughter is picturing the scene as her father mowing down 10s of Austrian troops but for all we know he could met 10 troops on that mountain.Lets also look at the pilot one: Clyde is a egotistical jackass, lets put that at face fact, however how much is he telling the truth? Did he break out and basically escape his trial? Or did he get into the plane with Wilson? We wont know.
The Lawrence of Arabia story isn't 'all out nonsense' and he didn't do it for oil (he wouldn't have benefited from it anyways, Lawrence was just an officer), he did it for Arab independence. It was Great Britain and France that did it for the oil, and influence in the Middle East (the Sykes-Picot Agreement, which Lawrence wasn't a big fan of). As far as I know, Lawrence did what he could short of treason to secure Arab independence, but it was out of his hands.I don't even think the game implied that, anyways.
