Pendragon: the BOTA (Builders of the Adytum) Tarot DeckBOTA Tarot DecksThe MagicanMinor ArcanaTheputs out tarot decks, all of them with the same artwork, but in two different sizes (and several different languages). The 22 Major Arcana cards are available in regular size or in a 'huge' size (7'x4'). The full 78-card deck is available only in regular (playing card) size. All of their decks are moderately priced. What's special about their decks?1. The artwork is VERY similar to Rider-Waite, but just different enough to make it interesting. And Death israther than the robed figure on the white horse.2.
They are printed without colors ('All decks are black and white only,' as they put it). It's line drawings on a white background.

BOTA encourages you to color your own deck; in fact, their catalog includes a set of water colors that you can buy just for that purpose.Their regular 78-card deck, which sells for $8.50, is shipped in plastic shrink-wrap; there's no box. The cards are printed on heavy pressboard stock, and it is impossible to shuffle them in the usual way because (1) they're so heavy and stiff and (2) they don't have any plastic coating. The Minor Arcana don't have illustrations, except on the Court cards; the illustration for the Six of Cups is, well, six cups. There are a few extra 'insert' cards: (1) an illustration of the Qabalistic tree of life; (2) a card entitled 'The Pattern on the Trestleboard' that contains 11 statements (numbered 0 through 10).
Statement #8 is 'I look forward with confidence to the perfect realization of the Eternal Splendor of the Limitless Light'; (3) a yellow card that reads 'MAN KNOW THYSELF TAROT A Key to the Riddle of THE UNIVERSE A Key to the Mystery of KNOW YOUR OWN SELF etc.' The BOTA's publicity material is littered with terms like 'spiritual aspirants,' 'enlightened worship,' 'mystical-esoterical meditation practices,' and 'vibratory attunements.'
Paul Foster Case“The master-key to the Hebrew wisdom is the “name” translated “Lord”. in the Authorized Version of the Bible, and “Jehovah” in the revised versions. It is not really a name at all, but rather a verbal, numerical and geometrical formula. In Roman letters corresponding to Hebrew it is spelled IHVH.“This is a noun form derived from a Hebrew verb meaning “to be.” Correctly translated, it means “That which was, That which is, That which shall be.” THAT, not HE.
Thus, it is a perfect verbal symbol for the One Reality- for that Something which has always subsisted behind all forms in the eternity of the past, for that Something which really is behind all the appearances and misunderstandings of the present, for that Something which will be the foundation for all the changing forms of life-expression in the eternity to come.“Never has Ageless Wisdom attempted to define this One Reality. Its inner nature defies analysis, cannot be put within the limits of any formal statement, because the One Reality is infinite. Yet, in every age the report of the wise has been that in the One Something inheres the power to know.
We say, therefore, that IHVH is a verbal symbol for the Conscious Energy that brings all things and creatures into existence.” Paul Foster Case, “A Key to the Wisdom of the Ages”. EDITOR’S NOTE: In the King James Bible, “The LORD”, in all capital letters, refers to “Jehovah” aka “Yahweh” (YHWH). The image above indicates a correlation which is commonly drawn between the four letters of the Divine name, the four Kabbalistic worlds, the four elements, and the four Tarot suits.
Note the alternative correlation (between the creative & formative worlds and the elements of air and water, respectively) suggested by left-hand image of the Tree of Life, belowThe images above are just two of many, many such images floating around the Internet reflecting a variety of interpretations. The text and image, below, are from the (“Builders of the Adytum”) web site: The Pattern on the Trestleboard: This Is Truth About The Self0. All the Power that ever was or will be is here now.1.
